Who we are

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, I collect the data displayed in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to assist with spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also known as a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service’s privacy policy can be found here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture (if available) will be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, please avoid including images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images uploaded on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies for your convenience. This prevents you from having to re-enter your details when leaving another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit the login page, I will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. Upon logging in, I will also set cookies to store your login information and screen display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, while screen options cookies last for one year. If you select the “Remember Me” option, your login will persist for two weeks.

If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. Additionally, if you edit or publish an article, an extra cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may contain embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if you visited the other website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content. This includes tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, both the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows me to recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically, rather than keeping them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on my website (if applicable), I store the personal information provided in their user profiles. All users have the ability to view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except for the username). Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include data I am required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
